Please allow up to 4-5 weeks for this piece to be made and shipped, this gives me the time to individually cast your pendant in recycled sterling silver and get it fully hallmarked by the Sheffield Assay Office. If you'd like your pendant oxidised (shown in the last two photos) and aged more rather than the high polish finish there's an option for either.

Sand cast in recycled sterling silver each pendant is completely unique and will vary slightly from the ones shown, beautiful texture and age to this big pendant that reminds me of the carved ones found in old buildings. Including the bail the pendant is 3.5cm long and weighs about 10-12g. Full UK hallmark on the back from the Sheffield Assay Office. Etched on the walls of many of the houses, barns and buildings that we care for are symbols known as witch marks or apotropaic marks. Witch marks are also referred to as ritual protection marks or apotropaic markings. The word apotropaic comes from the Greek word apotropaios which is translated as turning away (evil).

One of the most common types of witch marks found in buildings is the daisy wheel, also known as the hexafoil. As the name suggests, the symbol takes the form of a six petalled flower. The daisy wheel would have been drawn using a compass and as such looks very geometrical in design. Daisy wheels can vary in size and complexity from a single hexafoil to a group of interlinked hexafoils. It was thought that if demons saw a line they would follow it, becoming trapped. A piece of amazing medieval graffiti!
